In this project students in BACON will design and build an environmental conditions monitoring station for the CHS community garden. This station will consist of several sensors collecting data at regular intervals on environmental conditions relevant to a garden, such as soil moisture and temperature, air temperature, light, and precipitation. The station will also have a suspended camera to capture photographs of the garden which can later be analyzed to look at plant growth. The station will be remotely send data to a computer and log the data online for analysis and use in the classroom.
This spring students worked to build a weatherproof box to house the monitoring station and began working on coding the sensors. We will continue to work on the sensor system, and anticipate the sensor station to be working in the spring of 2016.
